Marimic - STANDARD rules

The musical time machine that tests your knowledge of tunes and their origins! Gather your friends and form your teams.

What you'll need:

- 82 Year Cards: Each card contains the release year of a famous song on one side and a QR code on the other. Starting at 1957 all the way to 2024.

- 17 Country Cards: These cards feature countries with a QR code on the back and the country on the other side, leading you to the origins of famous bands and artists.

- 'Choose Category' or 'Scan To Play' Card: This card lets you select the category you want to play with.

- Marimic app in the Play Store: This app will make the experience smoother, but is completely optional!

Forming Your Bands (Teams):

Up to 10 players can join, divided into 2, 3, 4 or 5 teams. A team can be a solo act or a group.

Setting the Stage (Preparations):

1. Spotify or YouTube Music Ready: Ensure at least two players (from different teams) have Spotify or YouTube Music installed on their smartphone. Subscriptions of these services are helpful to avoid ads.

2. Pick Your Category: Only one player (the host) scans the 'Choose Category' card. Follow the instructions on the screen.

3. Shuffle and Stack: Mix the Year' and Country cards together. Place the deck in the center of the table with QR codes facing up. Each team gets 7 cards, except the starting team, they get 8 cards. Keep the years hidden from other teams.

4. Create History: Place one Year card (QR code down) in the middle of the table to start the shared timeline.

Perform! (The Game):

5. Scan and Listen: The starting team (Team A) passes any Year or Country card from their hand to the team sitting left from them (Team B). Any team (except Team B) scans the QR code, and a song will play after a 3-second delay.

6a. Passed a Year card?: Team B must guess the release year of the song by placing the Year card (QR code still facing up) somewhere between the cards on the shared timeline. If team B has made their decision on where to place the card, they can flip the card.
If the year fits chronologically, then the card remains in the timeline. If incorrect, Team B draws a card from the deck, and the wrongly placed Year card is discarded. The turn then ends.

6b. Passed a Country card instead?: Team B guesses the country where the artist or group originated. If correct, no card is drawn. If incorrect, Team B draws a card from the deck. The Country card is then discarded. The turn then ends.

7. Next Tune, Please: Team B now passes a card to the next team at their left (clockwise), and the round is repeated. Continue until one team has no cards left.

Winning the Encore (Victory):

The first team that has no cards left in their hands wins the game and earns eternal bragging rights as music maestros!

Expanding the timeline

When there are 13 cards in the timeline, the player who placed the last correct card must discard one card from the timeline. The timeline should not exceed 12 cards to keep it manageable.

Optional rules:

- Starting cards: When you are playing with 4 or more teams, it is recommended to lower the number of cards that each team receives at the beginning of the game (6 per team instead of 7).

- PRODUCER Mode: Feeling confident? In the PRODUCER version of the game, not only must you place the Year card correctly in the timeline, but you must also guess the name of the artist. Both guesses must be correct for the card to be kept in the timeline.

Notes

* When we are asking for the release year of the song, we are looking for the year it was first released in any country, whether on an album or as a single.
